CIT training trip

Summer Camp - 2010 Counselor-in-Training Program

Participants must be 15 years old by the first day of session attended

Two-week sessions; limited to 8 campers/session

The CIT Program provides further opportunities for growth and challenge when campers have aged out of our traditional programs. CBC has a long history of hiring staff that have gone through the progression of camper to the CIT program.

These two-week sessions help prepare you to become a junior staff member. The program is based on a CITs learn the Challenge Course ropescombination of training and apprenticeship. While working with counselors, campers, and peers, CITs learn to be team members as they take on responsibility and leadership roles.

Participants should be interested in improving their skills and strengths, working with children, and becoming part of a community. Under the guidance of senior counselors, CITs will have opportunities to experience working in selected program areas. During training sessions they will also develop a basic understanding of topics such as group management, program planning and child development.

CIT program elements include: apprenticeship with senior staff, program development, community service projects, adventure education, CPR/first aid, and lifeguard training (please note that lifeguard training is offered only twice during the summer).

Evaluations and recommendations for possible future employment as Junior Counselor at CBC will be made at the conclusion of the program.
