2010 Lightning Camp (kids entering grades 4 - 6)
To Campers: “Let your creative and adventurous spirits soar, sing old songs with
new enthusiasm, get the chance to explore the woods and waters of MDI! Whether it is boating for the first time, or
arts & crafts for the hundredth, Lightning campers will have both choice and challenge in each activity. Bring your
Lightning energy to light up our dress-up days, talent shows and scavenger hunts …”

To Parents: The aim of this camp is to provide a wide variety of activities for excitement and exploration. We intentionally integrate longer activity blocks in certain program areas, for more challenge and skill building. Yet, we understand that this age group still needs plenty of support and supervision. Lightning campers will begin and end each day as a large group and travel to activities in smaller groups. This consistent social setting encourages respectful interactions with peers and strong connections with counselors. The greater part of the activities will take place on our campus, with some special opportunities for exploring MDI and Acadia National Park.

Kathryn Bears, Lightning Camp Coordinator
Katie is returning for her fourth summer on CBC’s staff. A lifeguard and swim instructor for two summers and Waterfront Director last year, Katie will take over in 2010 as Lightning Camp Coordinator. Katie thrives on the energy kids generate and loves to see their excitement when they reach and surpass their goals. She relishes working in CBC’s environment of learning and fun that is inviting for both campers and counselors. A senior in the secondary science teaching program at the University of Maine, Farmington, Katie plans on attending graduate school in Science Education at Orono in the fall. Whenever she has time, she tries to play and frolic outside: from swimming, to skiing, to biking, to exploring and sailing, there’s nothing more gratifying to her than spending time out of doors in the ever-changing seasons of Maine. |
