2010 Quasar Camp (campers entering grades 7 - 9)
To Campers: “Quasars, join in and help create your own great summer! Whether it’s adventuring out into Acadia National Park or polishing skills in a favorite program area, your fellow counselors and I are looking forward to making this summer one to remember. Be prepared to take advantage of off-campus activities such as hiking, swimming, exploration of local island coves and beaches – all of this is in addition to our more traditional camp activities, which you will also have an opportunity to partake in.” – Pat, your Quasar Camp Coordinator
|
To Parents: With older campers in mind, the Quasar camp looks quite different from the other camps. For starters, the days are scheduled into morning and afternoon blocks for in-depth programming. This allows for experiences and adventure, both on and off our campus. Quasar campers have opportunities for extended challenge course experiences, off-site group trips exploring MDI and Acadia National Park, and special service projects for camp and our community. During the weekly schedule, campers will also have choice blocks to focus on specific interests in the traditional program area offerings. There will be two dedicated Quasar counselors. In addition, a full-time coordinator will plan, organize and supervise trips. Through programming and social experience, campers will have the chance to develop more responsibility and independence

Patrick Bush, Quasar Camp Coordinator
A long-time CBC camper, CIT and counselor, Patrick will be returning in 2010 for his fourth year as Quasar Camp Coordinator. He especially likes to work with teen youth as they begin to define themselves as the adults of the future. At camp, that means having fun with exploration and inquiry. Patrick likes to challenge campers to be open to “the buffet of life,” to identify their own questions and then look for answers, to discover how they can positively affect others and the environment around them. A senior at the University of Maine, Farmington, Patrick is majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in Science and looks forward to his student teaching in the fall. He also enjoys hiking, biking, swimming, snowshoeing, and skiing. |
Daily Schedule
Quasar days will be divided into half-day and full-day blocks that provide the opportunity to integrate traditional camp activities, service learning and field trips.
Morning Example: Gear up and kayak to Echo Lake Beach. Explore the hidden coves, take a dip, then enjoy lunch on the rocky shores of the lake. Paddle back to camp.
Afternoon Example: Load into the vans and go out to explore the trails of Acadia National Park. Or, stay with the group at camp and participate in program area activities. |
