We are an independent, nonprofit day camp, serving the youth of Mount Desert Island, Hancock County, Maine and beyond. We welcome you to explore our website and the fun of Camp Beech Cliff. Please contact us for any further information you need.
We are thrilled at the prospect of being back at our Beech Cliff site this summer and are excited to once again offer a week exploring some new places on Mount Desert Island, as well as our traditional CBC activities
- Session 1 (June 18 – June 22) will be MDI Explorer camp, starting and ending each day at our Beech Cliff site and using the Island Explorer bus and camp vans to explore places all over MDI. Swimming and boating opportunities are part of the plan.
- Sessions 2 through 10 (June 25 – August 24) will be back at our renovated Beech Cliff site where we will return to our regular program areas and add some new and exciting activities.
All sessions will still have the same great staff, the same camp philosophy, and favorite camp traditions (like camper bucks, Fracky Fridays and ice pops!).
MDI Explorers
Session 1
Given the success of our Explorers program last summer, we have decided to offer it for a week this year. Each day, campers can look forward to heading out for adventures in a different direction on MDI, starting and ending at our Beech Cliff location. The routes will be fully-planned and often will use the free Island Explorer bus. At least one lifeguard will be present.
Sample Days
One day, a group of campers and counselors might hop the free Island Explorer bus for a Park Loop Road adventure: Sieur de Monts to check out the exhibit at the original Abbe Museum, then on to see what’s happening at Thunder Hole, a hike and picnic on Gorham Mountain, and finish with a shore exploration at Otter Point.
Another day, the group might travel by van: to swim and kayak at Somes Pond, hike the woods and shoreline at the Blagden Preserve, then meet some of the animals at the Acadia Wildlife Foundation’s rescue center.
Or the group might immerse themselves in one of the Island towns. In Southwest Harbor, for example, they might participate in an activity at the Gilley Museum, visit with a lobster fisherman or perhaps tour a boatyard , then hike Flying Mountain and explore Valley Cove.
