The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program provides opportunities for growth and challenge when campers have aged out of our traditional programs. CBC has a long history of hiring staff who have gone through the progression of camper to the CIT program. Participants should be interested in improving their skills and strengths, working with children, and becoming part of a community.
The CIT program requires a minimum commitment of two weeks, the first in training and the second (or more) as an apprentice. The CIT program is a selective application process; when we receive your regular camp registration form, we will send you the CIT application. The CIT program provides further opportunities for growth and challenge when you want to prepare to become a junior camp staff member. While working with counselors, campers, and peers, CITs learn to be team members as they take on responsibility and leadership roles.
Week 1 Training: As a CIT in training, you will learn about multiple program areas, gaining basic insight into the management of those areas. This week will also be a great time to learn about basic camp-wide procedures. Training workshops will be provided in childhood development and risk management.
Week 2 (and beyond) Apprenticeship: Once you have completed a week of training, you will continue to learn about the different program areas while you play an instrumental role in delivering a quality program to the campers, shadowing and assisting the senior staff. CITs may also have the opportunity to pursue CPR/First Aid and Life Guard certifications. You are encouraged to participate in multiple Apprenticeship weeks after completing your Training week. Evaluations and recommendations for possible future employment as a Junior Counselor at CBC will be made at the conclusion of the program.
Our Counselor-In-Training program is a great way to prepare yourself for future employment with CBC or with other similar institutions. (Note: Successfully completing your CIT experience can make a great impression, but does not guarantee future employment.)
