Arts & Crafts – Unleash your creativity! Learn how to draw everything from cartoon characters to real life objects, paint with watercolors, do pen and ink drawings, sculpt in clay and paper mache. Enjoy craft projects such as puppets, masks, models, friendship bracelets, beadwork and origami.

Boating – Ah, to be out on the water on a hot summer day! Learn to sail or hone your skills. Practice the art of paddling a canoe or kayak. Find out how to handle yourself safely on the water and learn how to right a capsized boat. Explore the nooks, coves and crannies of Echo Lake, Long Pond, Seal Cove Pond and Somes Pond.
Challenge Course – Step up to the challenges of our low-ropes course and our new climbing wall! Build teamwork and leadership skills through group and individual challenges in a safe, supervised environment. Discover the benefits of trust, respect, and differences. Develop your agility, physical coordination, and balance. Learn more about yourself and about interacting with others.
Nature – Get up close and personal with local flora and fauna in the Tremont area and in Acadia National Park! Become a nature sleuth in the woods, hike a mountain, explore a stream or a tidepool, plant and taste vegetables in the Tremont School garden, create art from natural objects.
Outdoor Skills – Survive in the wilderness! Learn how to build a campfire, pack for an overnight trip, navigate with map and compass, create a bivouac shelter and leave no trace in the wilderness.
Performing Arts – Express yourself! Dance! Sing! Act, recite poetry, write a play or a song, participate in theater improv games! Prepare a performance for the Friday all-camp show!
New! Pottery – Learn the basic techniques for kneading, centering, hollowing, pinching and lifting. The goal will be to complete a small project that will be glazed and fired in our new kiln!
Sports & Games – Play ball! Everyone is invited and there is always room for one more. Come join a game of soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee, softball, volleyball, parachute fun, tag or dodgeball. Since we won’t have the challenge course this summer, we’ll add some fun “New Games” to the mix. We stress the importance of playing games in a friendly, supportive and sportsmanlike way, focusing on the experiences of camaraderie and physical activity.
Swimming – Come on in – the water is great! Learn to swim, improve your strokes, develop your efficiency and speed, or play water games with your friends. Each camper will have the opportunity to swim most days, in one or another of the lakes on the Quietside – Echo Lake, Long Pond, Seal Cove Pond or Somes Pond. Water shoes or crocs are essential for this activity.
New this year! Swim Like the Fishes – Beginner Swim Lessons - Every morning, campers who would like to take beginner-level swim lessons will spend the second or third activity block at the waterfront with swim instructors. We follow the American Red Cross progression of swim skills as the basis of our swim program. Approximately half of each of the 50-minute swim periods is devoted to instruction under the direction of our water safety instructor. The remainder of the period is enjoyed as free swim and games. A buoy line separates the shallow end from the deep end. Our approach to the swim program is gentle and encouraging. We believe that every young person on MDI should learn to swim.
