What Does BIPOC Mean?

BIPOC is an acronym that stands for “Black, Indigenous, [and] People of Color.” When using the term, one is not being exclusive to just Black and/or Indigenous people, for example. It’s an umbrella term. BIPOC can refer to anyone who is non-White like people who are Asian-American or Latin@. The term was developed and coined in the 2010s in an effort to help create and foster equality for historically marginalized communities in this country. People also use “BIPOC” as an alternative to saying terms like “minority.” These terms, while being factually correct, are lacking humanity (there’s no clear indication that they’re referencing people.)

Camp Beech Cliff is proud to support initiatives toward equitable outdoor access!
